Monument to a defunct tram line
A historic tram car stands at this location, a reminder of the time when Podgórzyn was connected to the surrounding towns by tram. The tram was an important part of the lives of residents and tourists here for more than half a century.
History of the tram line
The first tram arrived in Podgórzyno Dolny on August 8, 1911. Construction continued at a rapid pace - on January 2, 1914, a tram car left Śnieżka and on May 20 of the same year it reached the final stop Pod Skałką .
However, the preparations themselves took longer than the construction – the first applications for the construction of the line were submitted as early as 1905 and it took several years for them to go through the complex official process.
The line branched off from the Sobieszów line at the church, led through Piast Square and continued along today's Cervi Street to Podgórzyna. Interestingly, there was no classic loop at the destination station - the trams were two-way , so there was only a switch and a stop.
The last tram left Podgórzyno on December 31, 1964. From the next day, it was replaced by buses.
