intro

Erlebach's hut

Approximately 100 meters from the beginning of the Toboggan Run, below Malý Šišák, is the Erlebachova bouda. The original building was built on this site in 1784 by Ignaz Hollmann, from whose descendants the Erlebachova family bought the building. In 1961, the family succumbed to pressure and transferred the hut to PZO Centrotex. The current owners are the Tomášek couple, who created the St. Francis Resort here, which also became the patron of the newly built chapel.

The complex even has its own postage stamp and you can taste Erlebach beer here.

Chapel of St. Francis of Assisi

In 2007, a chapel of St. Francis of Assisi was built in the area around Erlebach's hut, made of Krkonoše stone. Until then, a nativity scene stood in the same place, which has now been moved near the chapel. The sides of the chapel are decorated with stained glass windows, and the front of the tower is glazed so that the bell of St. Agnes of Bohemia can not only be heard well, but also seen.

The path of Czech-Polish friendship

The entire 28 km long Czech Friendship Trail offers unique views of the Czech Republic and Poland. The imaginary beginning in the west is the border crossing at Vosecká bouda, and the route ends on the eastern side at Pomezní bouda. The trail mostly follows the Czech-Polish border, but in some sections it crosses it to one side or the other. Along the way, you will come across both Czech signposts with distances given in kilometers and Polish ones, where distances are given in hours. The entire route is decorated with natural monuments such as Dívčí and Múžské kameny, Sněžné jámy and the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, Sněžka. On the way, you will also pass by the Krkonoše huts, which traditionally belong to the Krkonoše Mountains. Every kilometer of this ridge path has something to offer.

Interesting facts

Smugglers in the Krkonoše Mountains

After the Silesian Wars, smuggling spread in the borderlands - goods from Poland were often significantly cheaper (e.g. a sugar cane cost 2 crowns vs. 6 CZK in Bohemia), so the mountaineers, familiar with the mountain terrain, transported alcohol, tobacco and other commodities over the ridges. Despite strict patrols (the so-called "strnady", later "financi"), they were popular with the people - they always paid well and there was often something to buy from them.

Špindlerová bouda below Malý Šišák

This mountain hut is located at an altitude of 1208 m above sea level, less than 4 km northwest of Špindlerův Mlýn, directly below the peak of Malý Šišák. It serves as a popular starting point for hiking trails to the surrounding Krkonoše Mountains.

Film and the Krkonoše backdrops

The path around Josefova bouda to Špindlerova bouda has also inspired filmmakers - it appears in films such as Pan Tau na horách or the series Rozpaky kuchaře Svatopluk . In addition, a scene from the famous fairy tale 12 months was filmed in the vicinity of Josefova bouda, where the character Karel (Roman Vojtek) is looking for Maruška in the mountains.
