White Elbe

The 8.3 km long mountain river Bílé Labe originates in the Úpské rašelinisté, about a kilometer from Luční bouda to the east. At Dívčí lávek, the Bílé Labe flows into the Elbe River.

Elbe

A little further, 1386 m above sea level, in Labská louka, the second longest river in the Czech Republic, the Elbe, springs. However, the actual spring is not located in the well-known place, but a few meters further on in Labská louka. The well-known tourist spring of the Elbe is marked by a stone circle and nearby is a wall decorated with 28 coats of arms of larger towns through which the Elbe flows. The place is also decorated with two memorial plaques, both dedicated to the pioneer of skiing and mountain tourism in the Krkonoše Mountains, Jan Buchar.

Interesting facts

The Elbe River has had its name since ancient times – it was named by the Celts, who perceived its power and importance. The original Celtic word “elb” simply meant “great river”. From its sources in the Krkonoše Mountains to the North Sea, it is still one of the most important European rivers.

Another interesting place is Dívčí lávek (Girls' Bridges). This is where the glacier that shaped the Labský důl ended in the past. When you walk through this area, you are standing in a place where nature has written history for thousands of years and left a landscape with a unique character.
