Border of KPN and Forestry Administration, road to Przełęcz Karkonoska saddle

A prominent place on the border of the Karkonosze National Park and state forests, with beautiful views and the proximity of the significant Przełęcz Karkonoska mountain saddle. An ideal point for stopping, observing the landscape and continuing along the trail.
intro

A place where the character of the landscape changes

At this point, the nature changes – you leave the strictly protected zone of the Karkonosze National Park (KPN) and enter the territory of Polish state forests , which are subject to a different management system. The park boundary is clearly visible not only on the map, but also in the landscape itself. The change in the structure of the forest cover, the transition from more natural to managed, is visible at first glance.

The Giant Mountains in this section offer peace and space for wildlife observation – if you walk quietly and with respect for nature, you may be lucky and spot a black grouse, deer, mouflon or even a wolf.

Views from the ridge within reach

About 800 meters above this point lies the Przełęcz Karkonoska (1,198 m above sea level), an important mountain pass on the state border between Poland and the Czech Republic. From here, panoramic views of the Krkonoše ridge open up – different in every season, but always impressive. It is an ideal place to stop, recharge your batteries and perceive the mountains in their raw beauty.

What you will see along the way

Looking towards the Jelenohorská basin, you will see Suchá hora (1,113 m above sea level) and its group of granite rock formations on the right. The highest of them is the Wiaterna rock, located at an altitude of 1,070 m. On the left side, the belt of Bažynové rocks winds along the Hutnice ridge - also made of granite, with blocks up to several meters high.

The entire area falls within the vegetation of the lower forest (500–1000 m above sea level) , where today spruce monocultures predominate. However, originally Sudeten beech forests grew here, which today survive only rarely in more remote parts of the mountains.

Two huts, two cultures, one peak

There are two important tourist facilities near the saddle:

  • Schronisko PTTK Odrodzenie on the Polish side – a mountain hut with a long tradition, typical of the Polish approach to tourism.

  • Špindlerova bouda on the Czech side – a hotel facility with a restaurant, also known to cyclists and cross-country skiers.

Both extend below the Malý Šišák peak (1,439 m above sea level), which completes the backdrop to this place, often shrouded in fog, but all the more magical.
